Art Blocks Houston - OPEN HOUSE EXHIBIT

Friday, December 14, 2018

I've been on a mission to discover as much of downtown Houston as I can.  I love art, so I follow a few accounts on Social Media that focus on art installations around the city. One of the accounts I follow is @ArtBlocksHouston. They work to install temporary art around downtown.  When they announced the Open House exhibit at Sam Houston Park, I knew I had to swing by! The weather couldn't be any more amazing on the day I stopped by.

The Open House is another Havel Ruck Project, by artists Dan Havel and Dean Ruck. Dan and Dean focus on reusing existing architecture to tell a story. You may remember I featured their artwork on my blog post covering their ripple piece at Cherryhurst House. Not only was Open House a home that looked like swiss cheese with all of the holes, but the inside was covered in photos.  Photos from all time periods of Houston.  It felt as though I had been transported back in time once I walked through that door.  One of the plaques mentioned the purpose was to stare at the past while staring at the present through the holes. The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park location was the perfect spot for Open House.  There are several homes from other centuries on display in Sam Houston Park, which is perfect for Open House with its photos from the past.  I took some amazing photos from inside AND outside the house! Check out the gallery below:
