The Glamour & Romance of Oscar de la Renta

Friday, February 09, 2018

Last week I took the boy to the Oscar de la Renta exhibit at the museum. Note to self: Do not take your boyfriend to fashion exhibits! Lol.  I'll just say I don't think he enjoyed it as much as I did. AND I had an amazing time. I was mesmerized.  I've been a fan of all things Oscar de la Renta since I found my love for fashion.  In fact when I first started blogging, I remember being uber jealous that fashion blogger, Jessica Quirk of What I Wore received an invite to the Oscar de la Renta NYFW show.  That was about the time where bloggers receiving invites to New York Fashion Week was unheard of.  Thanks Tavi for starting the trend.

The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta exhibit is on display at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston through March 18th. It is located in the Audrey Jones Beck Building. Tickets are $25 for adults with discounts offered for students and military; members of course enjoy the exhibit for free! I'm not a member, so I paid the $25 and it was worth every penny.  An audio tour is included with the exhibit and you can hear stories from Andre Leon Talley, family members and muses discuss Oscar and his gowns.

The exhibit features 70 looks,  with elements of Oscar's favorite inspirations: Spain, Russia, East Asia, and Gardens.  I love how Oscar incorporated his world travels into his garments.  Intricate ruffle designs, and embroidering.  I only wish I had enough money to wear one of these gowns! I must have been in the exhibit for well over an hour, reading ever description, and listening to every audio sound bite. I was so mesmerized at the end that I coughed up the $60 to purchase the Oscar de la Renta catalog! I love collecting fashion books. Please check out some of the photos from the exhibit below:

Hurry to MFAH to check out this exhibit before it's gone! If you think these photos are amazing,  they don't hold a candle to what these gowns look like in person.
