DAY FOR NIGHT: Days 1 & 2

Wednesday, January 03, 2018

December ended up being a pretty busy month for me! One of the highlights was covering the 3-Day Music and Art festival, Day for Night.  Ironically, I had only heard of Day for Night a month before I received an invitation to attend the festival.  Day for Night Fest was created by the creators of Free Press Summer Fest, and 2017 marked the second installment. The premise of Day for Night was a mixture of light and sound. Sound was represented by musical acts from well named performers such as Nine Inch Nails, Cardi B, Solange to up and coming acts! For art there were a bunch of really amazing light and sound installations around the warehouse.   The warehouse used to host the festival was the old United States Post Office bldg located at 401 Franklin Street.  With 4 stages, massive art installations, food trucks, and more this was definitely the perfect venue to host this type of event.

It's amazing what effects can be done with cellophane and neon lights! Ha!
I was invited to attend the festival by Toyota, one of the main sponsors of the festival. They provided msyelf and a plus one with VIP Tickets, a brand new CH-R to drive for a week, and a complimentary 3-night stay at Hilton Americas. They were even kind enough to provide me with a gift card to cover any expenses like gas and snacks! I blogged about my time with the CH-R a few posts back, so make sure you head over to check it out. Let's just say, I really loved that little whip! It was a joy to drive around town.  I'm not sure if you remember but the weekend of Day for Night was also the same weekend as my annual Christmas Party, so I had a whirlwind weekend. I invited my bf to come with me as my plus-one, and we had a great time spending the weekend together. We attended all 3 days, heading there Friday night. With our VIP tickets we were able to access a shorter line, and access VIP areas around the festival that had free food, drinks and seating.  I'm not going to lie, enjoying anything at VIP level is always fun. I'm extremely grateful that these opportunities have been offered to me over the years due to my blog!

After stopping by the VIP area to pick up a drink, we started walking around on the first floor to see the cool art installations. I think I still have some videos left from these art projects, because a lot of them had sound associated with them as well. This first one had 3 huge rings in series in which the lights changed colored and sound changed as the lights went around the wings. At first it was a little intimidating because it was pitch black around the rings, and it was really loud, but after a few minutes adjusting to the site it was pretty freaking awesome!

That's me! I know it's hard to tell, but that was the point!

The first two nights we attended at night and focused on the installations inside the warehouse.  The post I share next will focus on our 3rd day when we arrived during the day and checked out all of the fun things outside, including going backstage for En Vogue!  Toyota also provided us with a complimentary 3 night stay at Hilton Hotel Americas.
