Brews For Bowls Benefiting Empty Bowls Houston

Y'all know how much I love giving back right? Ironically, when I went to write this post tonight, I came across a friend's post on Facebook about check writers for charities. While I agree that giving money to a charity is great, there's a ton of ways to give back, especially if you don't have the funds to give back. Volunteering your time is a great way to give back. Spreading awareness is another way as well. Never let anyone make you feel bad because you can't cut a million dollar check to a charity. Every little bit counts!

So back to this post. Whole Foods reached out to me a week or so ago to invite me to attend their private Brews for Bowls event.  The event was hosted in partnership with Houston Food Bank to raise awareness for Empty Bowls Houston.  We were invited to come and paint pottery bowls that will be featured at the Empty Bowls Houston event in June. The lovely team at Mad Potter was on site to guide us through the bowl decorating process, and Buffalo Brewery sponsored some cold brews for the guests. There was of course yummy snacks from Whole Foods as well.

Empty Bowls, in it's 13th inception, occurs on June 3rd and is an effort between artisans, students and teachers to get rid of hunger in Houston. With a $25 donation attendees get to choose a hand crafted bowl and enjoy live music and life artwork. If I can make it I really hope to attend this event! It's also cool to know that someone in Houston will have my bowl, and they can have one of yours too! It's not too late to donate a bowl of your own. Check out this link to find out how you can donate a bowl. It took me a little bit to come up with a design for my bowl. I started off just wanting to do stripes of colors, but it's a lot harder than you think to do stripes on a bowl! I still did stripes, but I changed it up a bit by adding shapes in the middle of my bowl.

  1. What a fun event, and great way to give back. I'm trying to do more volunteering as well, since I can't donate funds. Phoenix has a similar event, but I haven't seen anything about volunteers painting bowls...yet... may have to make a suggestion ;)
