JOIN ME: Comicpalooza 2016

Those who are close to me know that I have a secret love of superheroes and basically all things nerdy.  Well it's really not a secret. I basically discuss something nerdy every day of my life and spend a good amount of time researching comicbook history, and reading articles on the net and interacting with other fanboys and fangirls on social media on plotlines.  For as passionate as I am about fashion, I am the same about my nerdy world. So much so that I'll be launching a new blog soon to dedicate to my nerdy side! But more on that later. I'm here to give you the 411 on Texas' largest comic and pop culture event Comicpalooza! I attended Comicpalooza for the first time last year and it was probably one of the more memorable experiences of my life! I had such a blast!

This year, Comicpalooza has undergone several changes. The event is now manage by the City of Houston and they have changed the date from Memorial Day Weekend to June 17th - 19th!  I'm actually glad that the date moved away from Memorial Day Weekend. Houston hasn't had much luck with decent weather over Memorial Day. The convention will still be held at George R. Brown Convention Center and if you're like me, and hate parking around GRB you no longer have to worry about it. Comicpalooza has partnered with Parking Panda to guarantee that you'll find a space! Follow this link and you can already reserve your parking today for Comicpalooza!

If this is your first time attending Comicpalooza, you're in for a treat.  There are so many fun things to do! It's a great event to bring the whole family too.  One of the questions that I'm always asked is whether or not to attend Comicpalooza in costume. A lot of people come in costume but there are plenty that don't. I went as Storm the first day (see above picture where I met up with my fellow X-Men), but the 2nd and last day I went in regular clothes.   It was also fun to take pictures with people dressed up in characters that I loved! You could spend an entire day just shopping the exhibit floor. There are vendors upon vendors selling everything from superman t-shirts to medieval weapons. I bought a pair of Sais last year.

If shopping isn't your thing, there are tons and tons of seminars and panels. I love seminars because I have a thirst for knowledge. One of the panels I attended last year was titled, "Female Superheroes of Planetary Science". They were all ladies who worked for space programs. They even talked about searching for life on other planets. I sat in another seminar that was all about filming movies with just a cell phone, and another panel that was a debate between Star Wars and Star Trek. There's literally a panel or seminar on the hour every hour throughout all of Comicpalooza. You will have to organize your schedule to catch everything!

But I'm forgetting about the celebrities! Comicpalooza did an amazing job last year bringing in celebrities.  Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye from Avengers and this year's Captain America Civil War was there, along with Stan Lee himself! Some of the celebrities held panel sessions, like Rosario Dawson who played Claire in Season 1 of Daredevil, and the cast of Gotham also hosted a panel. And other celebrities hosted signing and photo-op booths.  This year the featured guest list continues to grow. You can see the full list by visiting this link.

Those are just a few of the guests already listed to appear! For autograph and photography pricing check out this link.  And if that's not enough to see you, there's also Quidditch matches, live bands, DJs, Cosplay contests, and gaming areas! Whew! Well I think that about sums it up to why attending Comicpalooza needs to be on your bucket list! To even further get you in the mood for Comicpalooza, we'll be hosting a twitter party on June 2nd! Follow me on social media to see what time the twitter party will occur!  In the meantime, what are you waiting for? Purchase your tickets today!
