EVENT RECAP: Smashin' Fashion

Friday, August 15, 2014

At the end of July I attended Houston's first Stylist Competition, Smashin Fashion presented by Wardrobe & Image Consultant, Sarah Shah. Sarah invited me to attend the event as press and I couldn't have been happier to cover her event! I love Sarah's message, that she conveys through her company SarahShah.com. Sarah is on a mission to show that there's a style for you and real woman need fashion too! The premise of Sarah's event involved 10 stylists styling 'real' women.  Real meaning of all shapes, sizes, and heights.  The winner of the Style competition received a $1000! Out of 40 applications 10 stylists were chosen to compete:  Kimberly Milton, Heather Petrey, Julia Browning, Taylor Grace, Valerie Greene, Sharae Blache, Thomasina Burns, Omar Lisandro, Kailey & Kelly of Kissue, & Kelly Holman.

Some of the Stylists!
The competition encompassed more than just one evening. The stylists were chosen and then paired with their models (model pairings were done at random). Each stylist was assigned two out of 4 themes to style their models for the show.  The models had fun too! They enjoyed modeling/runway lessons from Fashion Show Producer, Bambi Lynn of BliNC by Bambi Lynn and were featured in the digital program.  All the practice, fittings, outfit pulls, and more culminated into the sold-out show on July 31st.

The runway competition was held at The Art Institute Houston-North Campus, and featured a red carpet, step & repeat, lite bites, and drinks.  The event was sold out, so I was glad I had a seat! I was so excited to attend an event that featured real woman, AND it was sold out! Plus I was rooting for my girl, Heather Petrey who was one of the stylists. Judging the competition were Cherise Luter, Fashion & Beauty Writer for Houston Press, Mattison Grey, Business Coach and Speaker, Sarah Gabbart, Fashion Writer, Houstonia Magazine and Sabrina MisKelly, Producer for ABC-13.

While the scores were being tallied, Sarah gave thanks to everyone who helped create her vision and handed out flowers! Then it was time to announce the winners! So who won? In third place, Heather Petrey, 2nd Place, Taylor Grace and the Winner? Thomasina Burns!

I of course had to take a picture with Heather! Congrats on 3rd place Heather!
