EVENT RECAP: FGI Houston's Fall Trends Event with Elaine Turner, Aubrie Layne & Chloe Dao

Saturday, August 30, 2014

This past Wednesday, I attended FGI-Houston's Fall Trends event featuring Accessories Designer,  Elaine Turner, Fashion Designer Chloe Dao and Principal Makeup Artist, Aubrie Layne.  Elaine, Chloe and Aubrie are mega-watt success stories for Houston entrepreneurs in the fashion and beauty industry.  The three of them sat on the panel at the event and provided their take on Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion, Accessory, & Beauty Trends.  The panel was moderated by this year's Regional Director, Sydney Dao (and yes that is Chloe's sister!)

Elaine is of course well known for her collection of classically chic accessories offered at her namesake boutiques around the country, Elaine Turner.  Elaine created her brand in 2000 and has since been featured in national magazine publications such as O, InStyle & People, and has been featured on The Today Show.

Chloe Dao's name is forever famous as the winner of Project Runway Season 2. Beyond her win, Chloe is an uber talented designer that always keeps the 'real' woman in mind. Constantly asked why she doesn't move her label to New York, Chloe is happy with her home-base in Houston and loves the level of success she has achieved since the show.  In addition to designing collection after collection for Dao Chloe Dao, Chloe gives back, and recently participated in Project Runway Vietnam.

This is the second time Aubrie Layne has appeared on Live Life in Style! The first time was for my event recap of The Vanity Lounge's Summer Fashion & Beauty Survival Event.  Aubrie is the new principal makeup artist at The Vanity Lounge.  Aubrie begin her career in the beauty industry working and mentoring under Laura Mercier.  She has traveled the world and has done makeup for everyone from Fergie to spreads in Allure Magazine and Alice and Olivia Fashion Shows.

Thanks FGI-Houston for my reserved seat! :-)

The event was held at Elaine Turner's flagship store at Houston's Rice Village. After a half an hour or so of networking and mingling, the guests were asked to take their seats to start the evening's agenda.  At every FGI-Houston event, the board of directors are asked to stand up and say hello, and then they feature a member of FGI-Houston.

Things got a little emotional when it was Aubrie's turn to speak.  She recounted her time working with Elaine Turner and Chloe Dao and how much support and love they have for each other and she began to tear up! You could definitely feel the love in the room!  Aubrie chatted with us about her ideas for makeup which included mixing matte with shine and ways to transition your makeup from Summer to Fall.  Last but not least, Chloe Dao took the floor to discuss her take on Fall Fashion Trends, complete with a style board.  Chloe does tons of research for every season since she's a designer. From her research on 1000s of trends she picked out a few of her favorites and inspirations for her own Fall line for Dao Chloe Dao. Such trends included plaid, 60s, bulky sweaters and oversized. Chloe admitted that she would have liked to see more fitted apparel, but also stressed that women, especially Houston women are unique and should wear what they want and incorporate trends when they can.
