I love being introduced to new talent in Houston. Sometimes I feel that a lot of Houston's talent is overlooked by our mainstreamed media outlets who always focus on the same designers. This is great for them, but then a lot of other emerging and up & coming designers are overlooked! Rammy Kaur debuted her first collection for Rammyez by Rammy a few weeks ago at the River Oaks Garden Club.  I'm so glad I was able to make it! This was a super preview as she was showcasing her Spring/Summer 2015 Collection. The event started at 5:45 with a cocktail hour in the pretty gardens of the club. I ran into my friend Imani Talib and her sister Yekcira, and we had an impromptu photo shoot. I mean come on...you place fashion bloggers in a scenic setting like a garden and not expect us to take outfit photos? LOL.  Anyway before we headed into the runway area, we watched a video about Rammy and her collectionISHQ ROOTS, The Roots of India Shown Through Romance for Rammyez by Rammy.

I love how the chairs were decorated! Again this reminds me of a wedding reception, but I love how everything kept the same color scheme of pink and white.

Rammy Kaur is a student at The Art Institute of Houston  She was born in the United States, but did not visit India until 2005, where she learned about her rich heritage.  Her senior collection is inspired by Chanel's pre-fall 2012 collection. Indian culture is reflected throughout the collection in the rich textiles of silk and chiffon and the detailed hand beading and jewels worn by kings and queens. Coco Chanel loved how the royalty was clothed and thus inspired Rammy to incorporate the symbol of love in India -- The Taj Mahal.

I loved this girl's dress on the left! How pretty? Picture of Yekcira and Imani.

  1. OMG, it looks like fun!
I also love attending emerging designers events and catwalks on my city, which is near the main cities on Spain talking about fashion. They always have super fresh and different looks and ideas away from the typical catwalks. It's lovely and always fun!
In fact, talking about designers! I actually attended a super similar event like the one you talked about on this post. It's at: http://www.somethingfashion.es/2014/06/vlc-loves-design-presentation.html
