THE EVENT: Texas Style Council 2013 Day One

Friday, August 16, 2013

This is my second time attending the Texas Style Council, and it's 4th installment. What started off with 30 girls meeting for coffee, has turned into a successful blogger conference that bloggers from all of the country fly in to attend.  It's also one of the cheaper conferences to attend as a blogger and you gain sooooo much knowledge. It's definitely worth it.  Last year the conference was held during SXSW in Austin, and if you've ever been to Austin for SXSW or seen pictures, you know how crazy the city is and how jam-packed it is! I was happy that this year's installment would be held in August outside of SXSW. Day 1 activities started at 5pm on August 2nd with a solo dolo happy hour at Bonneville. If you traveled to TxSC by yourself you could go to the happy hour and meetup with other solo travelers.  I attended this conference with Melissa Garner of Janelaced. We roadtripped over from Houston and arrived a little later than expected (blame me and my last minute errands and shopping).

The very first thing we did when we arrived in Austin was show up at Miss Behave Boutique in Austin's 2nd Street District to drop off our items for the Lulu's Clothing and Book Swap and check-in  They had a clothing swap last year that was hosted by, but they added the book swap this year. I thought this was a cool concept and a lot of the books that were dropped off were fashion-related of course!  We received our official Texas Style Council Badges and stickers. I love the stickers! You get to stick them on your badge to tell people more about yourself and what you like! Here's mine!

I have Messy Desk, Night Owl, Cat Lover, High Heel Wearer, Texan, and Texas Style Council Alumni. Yea Yea, I know I'm not from Texas originally, but like the saying goes: "I'm not from Texas but I got here as fast as I could". I live in Texas now and the other option was out-of-state, so I attended the conference as a in-state resident!  I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one with a Michael Kors obsession. Melissa and I ended up wearing the same shoes to road-trip to the conference! Unplanned of course! I love this sneakers! And so does my mom! I bought her a pair too!  After checking into our hotel and me changing my outfit from roadtrip ready to Swap party ready, we headed back to Miss Behave to enjoy the festivities.

Here is the book I swapped for! Can't wait to read it!

Made some new friends: Mandi, Rebekah, Christina, Rachel & Jess!
After working up an appetite at the swap party the team of us headed over to Austin Java and had dinner together. Well some people had dinner, when they told me they served breakfast all day, I went after this yummy omelet! It was great to make new friends the very first night! We stayed in touch all weekend and hopefully will continue on social media after!

Dinner is served! Mushroom and cheese omelet with a side of Avocados and Strawberries and Bananas
So what did else did I pick up at the swap? This lovely coral sweater, a necklace and the Icons of Fashion book! I'm very happy with my swap items!
