THE EVENT: African Pride Ultimate Beauty Social Tour

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

Last Saturday I had the honor of co-hosting African Pride's Ultimate Beauty Social Tour with the fabulous Tamara Floyd of Natural Hair Rules, & Audrey Sivasothy of The Science of Black Hair.  I already knew Tamara from seeing her at a few events around Houston, but this was my first time meeting Audrey.  Hosting with the both of them was a lot of fun, and even though I was on the blogger panel, I had TONS of "natural" hair questions. The event wasn't just for natural hair gals. The main purpose of the event was to promote healthy hair and learn about African Pride's newest line of products.  I'm very familiar with African Pride. I used to wear braids all the time and one of my fav products to use with my braids was their braid spray, so when they contacted me to co-host their event I was super excited.

The event was invite only for about 25 people. It was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston's Galleria area from 12-2pm.  The guests were treated to a yummy breakfast and goodie bags full of products.  After brunch, Camilla Crews with African Pride presented their new line with the help of two lovely hair models (one natural, one relaxed).  After Camilla, we took the panel seats and led discussions on the following topics: Natural Hair in the work place, Hair & Style Trends in Houston, Bedtime Hair, & Hair Styling & Maintenance Challenges.

I learned alot during this event. As a recent transitioner to "natural" hair the more tips I can pick up the better.  Audrey and Tamara talked about the importance of what you eat and drink and how it affects your hair. We talked about moisturizing options for dry hair.  I talked about supplements and my experience with being natural in the work place and wearing my protective hair style which is wigs.  A lot of the guests had great questions and even better answers. It was just a great time to talk about our hair and network and just be open about the issues with our hair.  I would love to do another one of these soon! A lot of the members of Houston Fashion Bloggers came out too, and I really appreciated the support of my fellow bloggers! :-)
