Happy Blogoversary Live Life in Style!

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

I'm a few days late, but with the amount of activity I had going on this weekend I was unable to get a post up on the actual date of my blog's 2 year mark - February 11th, 2012.  Better late than never right Blogoversaries are just as important to us bloggers as any other anniversaries in our lives. It's a great time to reflect on where you were when you first started your blog and look at where you are now.  I for one never imagined that my blog would be where it is today when I kicked it off on February 11th, 2010.

The Beginning
Looking back at the start of my blog I find it interesting that I didn't even know niche fashion blogs existed.  Prior to my blog here on blogger, I had a Xanga (College years) and a Livejournal (high school years) in which I wrote and complained about the trials and tribulations of an everyday girl's coming of age story.  For whatever reason I stopped writing in these post my graduation from college, and pretty much forgot about online diaries for 4 years.

Maybe it's because Facebook was taking over my life, and I could share everything I wanted on Facebook...thoughts, opinions, pictures...why keep an online diary when I had FB! I was quickly turning my Facebook page into a personal outfit diary constantly changing my profile picture to share a new look, when I stumbled across an article in a fashion magazine on bloggers.  I think I then posted a status on Facebook about starting my own blog and my friend Kerry sent me the following message on Facebook:

Hey Shas,

I think this is a great idea. I've been working on several blogs and websites with other people in my program (and my own, which is still underway) and can offer some help...Check out weebly.com for free webdesign...It's super easy to use for basic site templates and easy to customize if you're familiar with HTML and CSS.

Also, here is a fashion blog that I like:
http://whatiwore.tumblr.com/ She also has links to similar blogs. I like that she shows what she wore and then adds a caption that says where you bought everything and what kind of event she wore it for. You should check it out for ideas. This blogger has recently gotten some press in Lucky and other such mags, so she must be doing something right!

I went to check out this What I Wore blog, and instantly fell in love with it...literally! Not only were Jessica's outfits amazing, but everything about the blog was so pristine and nice! The image quality of her photos were great along with the layout, and reading more about Jessica herself made me like the blog even more. She seemed so personable and not conceited with her blogger fame, and she is by far the only blogger with that much success that has responded to every last one of my emails asking questions.  That was my defining moment in which I decided to do this blog and take it to the next level. Not wanting to copy Jessica, but be inspired by her I made my blog my own. I did take the idea of listing what I wore and where I got it from, but I think almost every fashion blogger does that! And the rest is history.

The Change
My original blog banner created by my best friend Maggie

My blog name started off as Shasie's Fashion Advice, and my best friend  Maggie created an amazing banner for it! I loved it, but after a few posts I started to feel restricted with the name of my blog...I didn't want it to just be a "blog" forcing my fashion tips and opinions on people as fashion is subjective. I wanted my blog to be more of an inspirational blog. A place where people could come and get outfit ideas, and ask me styling questions if they wanted.  I had to think long and hard on a new blog name, and finally came up with Live Life in Style.  This emerged because for years my friends & family teased me about dressing up for everything...and I mean everything.  Well everything I do is life, and I want to live life stylishly, so why not inspire others to live life in style! :-)

With the change in my blog name, Maggie created a new banner for me that was just as amazing as the first! This has been my blog banner from 2010-2011
The Evolution
Near the end of 2011 I realized that my blog was taking another directional change. Instead of just being a personal style blog in which I shared my daily outfits, I was covering more and more fashionable events, product reviews, and working with sponsors.  I wanted to change my tagline from "Personal Style Blog" to something that was more encompassing. January 2012 I decided to change my blog design and banner yet again!
I wanted people to know that I lived in the city of Houston, and I wanted to be able to write on all things fashion while still showcasing my outfits
