What was I up to in October of 2009?  Let's see...well first, I found a halloween costume that actually fit me and was flattering for my figure (I've had some serious bad luck with Halloween costumes since reaching my more curvy adulthood).  I attended my first Italian festival in which I attempted to ride a mechanical bull and lasted 0.2 secs. I also attended the Puerto Rican & Dominican Republic Festival and danced with Kristy and Jose to live salsa, meringue, & bachata music.

But I think the most memorable event of October 2009  for me, was attending Star Wars in Concert. See, I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan. I've been a fan of Star Wars ever since I saw the re-release  of Episode VI Return of the Jedi when I was in 7th grade. That was my first experience with Star Wars...I know right? How am I just gonna jump to the last movie, having never seen the other 2? But believe it or not watching Return of the Jedi first did not ruin Star Wars for me, in fact it fueled an obsession that would last for many years, and still going strong!  Swiftly after ROTJ I headed off to Blockbuster to rent the other 2 (that's when movie rental places still existed). I watched Episode IV A New Hope and Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and after that I was hooked! I knew that they were making plans to make the prequels (Episodes I-III) but I couldn't wait! I bought almost all of the Star Wars Novels, and any little Star Wars trinket I could find...including a light saber and a 6-foot cardboard Darth Vader (My parents swifty moved Darth to the basement when I went away to college)! RIP Darth (let's just say he didn't last too long in the basement).

We were able to take pictures with some of the characters, and I wore my fav SW shirt. I've had this bad boy since 7th grade.  They also had actual movie "artifacts", like John Williams original score with his notes on it. I definitely went picture crazy!

My perfect Halloween Costume...Argh, Shiver me Timbers
My first wine-based margarita and my first time at what was then called Don Diegos. Stumpled upon this hidden treasure during Houston's A Night Out in Market Square. It's now my favorite Sunday Brunch spot, but it's been renamed to Macondo's. Same great food though!
My first time at a Dim Sum restaurant in Houston's Chinatown. My co-worker Quyen invited us to try it. I loved it...yet I think I ate too much!

My attempt at riding the mechanical bull at the Italian Festival
My failure at riding the bull...even more embarrassing because this little 8 year old got on there after me and lasted for a whole minute (I swear the operator made it really slow for her! HMPH)
Enjoying the Puerto Rican-Dominican Republic Festival with Jose
Out at a Houston nightspot with my homegirl Letty! I wish she was still here in Houston, I miss her lots!

And as a little treat I'll leave you with one of my favorite video clips from Star Wars in Concert
