SPONSOR - Koi Story

Sunday, August 07, 2011

Today I have for you an interview with one of my Sponsors; Meanz Chan of Koi Story Blog. I first  discovered her blog through one of those blog awards on someone else's blog and she was listed as one of the award recipients. I went to check her blog out and was instantly hooked. You guys will love learning more about Meanz, an artist and culture enthusiast!

Name: Meanz Chan
Occupation: Student
Hometown Location: Des Moines, IA
Current Location: Des Moins, IA
Blog URL (if blogger): http://koi-story.blogspot.com

Tell us about yourself and how you came up with the name of your blog? My tattoo represents the story of koi transforming into a phoenix. According to my parents, the story goes if a koi is able o swim up a waterfall and overcome all the obstacles along the way, then it becomes a dragon. I chose phoenix because a phoenix is the female counterpart of a dragon. It expresses my femininity and gives me a sense of empowerment.  Also, as an artist, I have always been inspired by Japanese art and tattoos and I've always wanted a koi tatoo. I have never seen anything like this done before and that is an incredible feeling as well. To have a somewhat original piece of art permanently on my body. Well, I'm honored to say the least.  To me, it symbolizes my culture as well as the idea that if I work hard, I can overcome all the obstacles an get to where I want to be in life.  This is my koi story.

Here is a picture of Meanz's amazing Koi Tattoo
How would you define your personal style? I think it's a great mix of vintage and modern styles. I guess I'm not really sure how to explain my style since I am so open to trying new things!

How did you come up with your feature: "Fifteen Favs on Friday"? I got the idea from Kaelah of Little Chief Honeybee, who does a "Things I love Thursday" post, and Kayla of  The Dainty Squid who does a "Friday Favorites" post. Also, it's just a good way to have some consistency with my blog.  When loyal readers come back to check out my blog on Friday, they know what they'll find! It's also a nice change from the rest of the posts of the week.

What inspires your daily outfits? I am inspired by all the other style bloggers I follow, along with perusing through Lookbook, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Chictopia to get some ideas. I mean, I can get inspiration from my outfits anywhere, sometimes it's even from my own closet!

What are your goals for your blog? I just hope to be able to keep it going. It's a little tougher throughout the school year. Also, I'd just love to keep expanding!

What inspired you to get into graphic design? Well, I've always been an artist, and I just love all the aspects of graphic design and just how much you can do with it! I love being able to be creative! I also am really interested in Web Design

How did you go from loving graphic design to falling in love with fashion and styling? I've always been interested in fashion and styling. I have developed a lot since the start of my blog though. I'm not sure, maybe it's because my mom used to be a tailor (an awesome one!) and she used to make me pretty little dresses when I was little. That sparked my interest!

Tell us some of your favorite fashion blogs and why? I love Keiko Lynn, she was one of the first style blogs I cam across and I feel in love. I just adore how sweet her posts are and her style is just incredible. Tieka of Selective Potential and Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage both really inspire me. They both seem so down to earth, and sweet and their style is just absolutely adorable! There are so many more, but I'll just stick with those three for now!

What kind of things do you like to do in your free time? I like to sketch, craft, do DIYs, watch movies, have photoshoots with friends, go thrifting, go to concerts, etc.

Tell us some of your favorite bands/artists? Band of Horses, Bon Iver, Rilo Kiley & The Black Keys

What is your favorite art assignment you have complete for graphic design? Honestly, I haven't even taken that many classes FOR graphic design yet, but my favorite would probably have to be my Digital Print Book. It's a collection of all of the assignments we did in Digital Print Production, an intro class. Here is the link: http://issuu.com/meanzchan/docs/bookk_mchan

Why have you decided to sponsor with Live Life in Style? I decided to sponsor Live Life in Style because Shasie is awesome, sweet and just adorable. I love how she started a facebook group page to bring bloggers together and bloggers should support each other! (Aww thanks so much Meanz!! This means a lot! I'm so happy that you are enjoying the group!)

Do you have any favorite styling tips? Layers are always awesome, and don't be afraid of color!

Do you like to follow fashion trends, and what has been your favorite S/S 2011 trend so far? I honestly do not know what the fashion trends are right now. I'm not saying I don't follow trends ever, but if I do follow them most of the time it's accidental. I like to wear what I want.

Do you have any tips for novice bloggers? Don't give up, ever! Also, network and communicate! There are so many sites out there to get your blog/website exposure. If you are a fashion blogger, look into signing up for IFB (independent fashion bloggers), Lookbook, Chictopia, create a Facebook fanpage, and anything else!
Here are some additional art pieces by Meanz

Would you like to add anything else for my readers? Shasie is an awesome blogger and person! Keep reading her blog (you are too sweet! Thank you!). Once again if you are a budding blogger, please don't give up! It's a lot of work, but it is so fun! I hope you all have a wonderful day and decide to check my blog out!
