Winter Holiday Art Market - Preview Party

Thursday, November 29, 2018

This was my first year attending the Winter Holiday Art Market (WHAM). I'm not sure HOW that happened, because this was the 13th annual installment and I'm usually all over festive local markets, but somehow I missed this one.  Houston's Fresh Arts organization are the ones who produce this market every year.  The Fresh Arts' mission is to champion local artists and help them succeed in the business of art. You can learn more about the Fresh Arts community on their website: To kick off WHAM, Fresh Arts hosted an Ugly Sweater preview party the night before the Market opened for free to the public. For a small fee, those who were eager to shop ahead of everyone else could attend the preview night and enjoy live music, exclusive shopping, and of course photo ops in their favorite Christmas sweaters.

Per my previous post, one of my best friends was back in town for the weekend, so I invited her to go to the WHAM preview party with me! We had a great time. I ran into several people I knew, and also stopped by some artist booths that have become a personal favorite of mine. I also discovered new artists that I can't wait to support.  I love supporting local artists and talent. While I love shopping at mainstream stores, Target, Macy's, etc. you run into having the same items as everyone else. As opposed to shopping local artists and small business that allow you to have unique items. But what if you missed attending WHAM? Maybe you were busy that weekend, or maybe you didn't know about the Market? Well, you're in luck. I'll be sharing links to the artists that I captured in this post and the next one, but you can view the list of artists in the below picture or view an entire list of participants here on the Fresh Arts website.

This little Wham-O juice was super yummy!
