Co-working spaces have become all the rage! There are several in Houston, and I'm sure there's a ton popping up around the country. I'm not sure who, or what started this trend, but I love it! I was recently invited to check out a new co-working space in Houston called Local Office. Are you familiar with what is meant by a co-working space? If not, here is the Wikipedia definition (I figured this was a better explanation than what I would write, and why reinvent the wheel?):

Co-working is a style of work that involves a shared workplace, often an office, and independent activity. Unlike in a typical office, those co-working are usually not employed by the same organization.

A great message to inspire you as soon as you walk in the door!
Co-working spaces are GREAT for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and app start-ups, but they don't have to be just for businesses.  I was thinking about joining one, just to have another place to go to blog, or get work done outside of my home! If you're like me, working from home, isn't ALWAYS the most productive experience.  If you have kids, it may near be impossible, and for me I'm tempted to sleep, watch TV, or do chores around the house! Stepping away from the home to complete work can be very helpful!

Co-working spaces typically offer tiered membership options, depending on how frequent you plan to use the space.  You can pay to use the general, common areas or pay a bit more to hold a lock & key private office.  Most co-working spaces have really great common areas outfitted with kitchens and snacks.  Local Office doesn't disappoint with an impressive cafe style common area that greets you as soon as you walk up the stairs.  They also have phone booth areas for private phone calls. Local Office even has a photography studio area!!!  And if you want to have a meeting with clients, or your team, you can book one of several conference rooms! Every time I visit a space like this, I want to work for myself and launch some epic start-up that turns me into a billionaire! I'm always so inspired by shared working spaces!

If you bike to their offices you can chain your bike INSIDE to the bike rack! I love that it's inside!

You can even receive mail here! This is definitely a great feature for a small business, entrepreneur.
All of the offices and conferences rooms are upstairs so there's an elevator or stairs to take you to the second floor.

I love that there are books available!

I really love the glass walls for the interior offices.  Sometimes having an interior office can feel claustrophobic because you don't have any windows. Providing two glass walls for these offices, allows a ton of light to come in from the neighboring wall offices.
Yes, I'm the weirdo who takes pictures of bathrooms! I couldn't help it! This retro orange chair and the doggie wallpaper was too awesome to pass up!
