SHOP LOCAL, SHOP SMALL: Houston Shops To Visit This Holiday SeasonSunday, November 20, 2016
One of my favorite times of the year is coming up this week...and it's not Thanksgiving. Don't get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving. It's great to gather with friends and family, enjoy a yummy, high-calorie meal, and count your blessings. But, I'm talking about the official start of the Holiday shopping season: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday & Cyber Monday. I'm a bona fide shopaholic. I'll admit it. I have a budget in every paycheck dedicated to shopping (don't judge me, I work hard for the money!). I already have my list of stores that I plan to visit on Black Friday, but this post is dedicated to small shops that I've discovered in Houston that are definitely worth a visit for your holiday shopping. And while Small Business Saturday is the new official day to shop small, there's no rule that says you have to wait until then to visit your local boutiques. If you aren't in the Houston area, I encourage you to step outside of your malls and discover local small shops in your area!
One of the many reasons I love shopping small is the amount of unique items I find. It's sometimes annoying to purchase things that you know other people will have. I like to find unique items that I can truly call my own. They also have very unique items for gifts! I love gifting people with out of the box presents. Please check out my list of local boutiques to visit below! They range from independently owned to small chains.

Events - Location: 1966 West Gray; River Oaks Shopping Center. Hours: M- Sat: 10am - 6pm; Sunday: 12pm - 6pm
I've driven by this boutique a million times, but this past weekend was the first time I've stepped inside. I think I always thought it was an event planning business. Turns out, it's a boutique with tons of gift, home, and event decor items for sale! They even have a full card shop and stationary section in the back. Starting in 1987, events has grown from a small gift boutique, to an extensive resource for your next event. They have experts in different areas of the store to help you make your selections! I definitely want some of the amazing Christmas decor items I found in the store.
Paula Fridkin Designs - Location: 2022 West Gray Street; Hours: M-F 10am - 6pm; Sunday: 12pm - 5pm.
Paula Fridkin is a local Houston artist, who has been operating her boutique for over 25 years. This was my first time stopping in the store, and I was definitely impressed. I left with more than a few items! I think you'll find a gift for everyone in this store! Even some NSFW items if you can take a joke!
King Ranch Saddle Shop - Location: 1956 West Gray Street; River Oaks Shopping Center,
I just stopped in this boutique for the first time last week. I attended an event there that benefited local Houston charity SIRE. SIRE is a therapeutic horse riding charity for people with disabilities. King Ranch is amazing!!! It's named after the largest ranch in the state of Texas. As soon as you walk in, you feel transported to the wild west! There are tons of leather goods from handbags to furniture. They also sell knives, boots, and cool antler chandeliers. But you better hurry! This store is only slated to be at River Oaks Shopping Center through January 31st.
Cheeky Vintage - Location: 2134 Richmond Ave. Hours: 1030am - 5:30 pm.
If you're looking for Vintage, than Cheeky Vintage is your one-stop shop! They have everything from formal wear to brooches. I particularly love the hats and shoes! I own a couple pieces from Cheeky Vintage. I even purchased items from this store a few years ago for my Mom for Christmas! Several of my blogging friends have worked at Cheeky Vintage as well! Currently Alice with Lonestar Looking Glass works at Cheeky Vintage.
Francesca's - Locations: Rice Village, Highland Village, The Woodway Collection, Uptown Park, & Memorial City Mall.
Francesca's is yet another boutique that got it's start in Houston. This hand-picked merchandise store opened it's doors in 1999 and has grown in popularity amongst bloggers and fashionistas everywhere!
Haute Dimensions - Location: 6521 North Main Street; Hours: T-F 10am - 6pm, Sat: 10am - 6pm.I love the mother and daughter duo behind the Haute Dimensions brand!! I only wish I lived closer to shop here more often!
Scout & Molly's- Location: 3311 Westpark Drive. Hours: M-F 10am - 6pm, Sat: 10am - 5pm; Sunday: 12pm - 4pm.
I love Scout & Molly's. They literally have something for everyone. They have clothes for all age groups and sizes. I loved meeting one of the local franchise owners earlier this year, Susan Bradley. You can check out my post on Scout & Molly's here.
FASHION TRUCK FESTIVAL - November 25th - 26th; 10am - 7pm
Last but not least, I would like to highlight mobile fashion trucks. There's a lot of buzz about food trucks, but have you stopped in one of Houston's Fashion Truck's lately? Some of my favorite are The Shoe Bar, & Urban Vintage.
