TRAVEL: 4th of July Staycation at Hotel SorellaMonday, July 18, 2016
My last hotel stop during the Go Houston Blogger Staycation was back at City Center staying at Hotel Sorella. For day 2, I invited my blogger gal pal, Tammy Smith of The Style Accomplice to stay and enjoy the day! Hotel Sorella is one of my favorite hotels to visit in Houston. I love the location at City Centre, and it's such a nice hotel. All of the bloggers in my group were staying there for the 4th of July ceremonies. We had a room located right above the stage and the fireworks display, so we didn't even have to go outside into the crowd when it was time for the fireworks! After settling into our room, Tammy and I headed down to Sorella's pool located at Monna Lisa Bar & Lounge. We had a blast there, especially after we were able to snag one of the cabanas.
During our time at the pool we were treated to pop-tails and lite bites from Milano Bar. The pop-tails are great for hot summer days, because they come with a popsicle inside. The popsicle is typically frozen liquor and some other ingredient like mint or fruit! I'm not a fan of mint in my drinks, so I definitely preferred the pop-tails that didn't contain mint. The food that they brought out was amazing!!!! We thought it was going to be lite bites, but the dishes were way bigger than that. We even started sharing our food with other people, because it was a lot!
After a full day at the pool, we headed in to change to go to Radio Milano for dinner. Radio Milano had the perfect set-up going for the 4th of July. They were outside on the grill. They had hot dogs, burgers, and turkey legs for sale. People who were coming to City Centre to watch the fireworks were able to walk by and grab some of this street-walking food and head into the festivities. All of the food was available for a great price as well. Finally it was time to get ready for the 4th of July events. A live band started around 8 and the fireworks were off at 9:30. I went down into the crowd for a little bit, but headed back upstairs to the hotel room for a room-side view of the show and the fireworks!!
I would provide the following tips for attending City Centre's fireworks extravaganza:
1. Get there early. Early in the morning parking is free, but closer to the event it costs $5.00 to park. Parking gets crazy as the evening goes on, so get there early enough to get a good parking spot.
2. The hotel will not let you into the hotel unless you are a guests, which I actually appreciate as someone who was staying there. There was already a lot of people using the elevators as it was with just the hotel guests.
3. The elevators at Sorella run a little slower with all that activity so just be patient while waiting for the elevator.
4. If you plan to stay at the hotel, request a room that faces the courtyard. If you end up with a room that doesn't face the courtyard, you can head down to the main lobby area that also over looks the courtyard. They had a bar available for cocktails to celebrate the holiday!
All in all I had a really good time at the Hotel. I had some issues with room service later in the evening, but the hotel handled it smoothly and all was well. Just make sure the lady takes your room number and actually puts your order in before the kitchen closes! It was an honest mistake, but they were able to give me some food!
