PITTSBURGH: West End Views

Saturday, December 12, 2015

Another one of my favorite spots to visit, while in Pittsburgh is either Mount Washington or West End Overlook. Both spots are across from the city skyline, and offer AMAZING, majestical views of the city. This is the perk of having your city smack dab in the middle of some mountains and hills. Unlike, Houston, which is oh so very flat.  I definitely wanted to capture some night shots of downtown from one of the two, so we decided on West End Overlook so I could capture the Christmas Tree at Point Park. Upon arrival there was an orange tabby in wait for us! I think it was someone's cat because it had a collar! I hope it made it's way back home! Check out the City of Pittsburgh from the other side....

Can you spot the orange tabby in this picture?
How about now?
It was a dreary day in Pittsburgh when we went up there, and this arch way with the dead foliage made me think of the movie, The Secret Garden, which was one of my childhood favorites!
Can you spot the point park Christmas Tree? I'm still trying to get better at nighttime shots, so I apologize if they're a little grainy. I'm going to take a class on nighttime photography!

To the left in this picture you can see Heinz field. That's where my parents and I were standing in this post, and that's called the north shore. See how the stadium faces the city? It has the same open side on the other side so everyone in the stadium can see the city.
Even the caretakers of West End Overlook got into the holiday spirit with decorations.

Driving back to our house we crossed back over the river and then I was able to see South Side which houses Station Square and one of the popular going out streets in Houston further up the way. The blue lights coming down the mountain are called inclines. We have two! They're little tram cars that take you from the top of the mountain to the bottom and vice versa.
Some of the buildings near my Dad's job! He has a great view!
In the corner my second favorite buildings: PPG Place, Pittsburgh Plate & Glass Company. They've always reminded me of castles.
