EVENT RECAP: Marlo Hampton's The Art of Style Houston Stop

Saturday, September 05, 2015

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend Marlo Hampton's "The Art of Style" event during it's Houston stop.  In case you don't know, Marlo Hampton used to be on the show, Real Housewives of Atlanta. I've actually never watched an episode of Real Housewives of any location,..ever, but I knew who Marlo Hampton was from promos and my friends talking about the show. I like her fashion sense. Not everyone is born with a sense of style. Some people have to learn it, some people never do, and others are born with it. Marlo is one of those people born with it. You can tell them right away, because they aren't slaves to trends, or editors decisions on what looks good or not. They put pieces together that you wouldn't think to do in a million years, but when you see it on them, it makes so much sense and you think, "Why didn't I think of that?" This was my perception of Marlo after interacting with her at her event.  From her amazing outfit complete with an Alice + Olivia skirt, to her style tips, Marlo definitely knows what she's talking about.

The event was held at Posh Salon, located at Post Oak Plaza in the Houston Galleria area. I had never been to this salon before, and I did drive around for a little bit trying to find it! But eventually I found it, and parked. I like that the Salon has it's own balcony overlooking a part of the Galleria area. Marlo's cousin was on hand doing check-in/registration.  I took my press release and started to take pictures around the salon. The salon had been transformed into a girl's fashion dream! With clothes, louboutins, and accessories everywhere. I was snapping pictures of everything. The guests were provided with white lawn chairs adorned with goodie bags from Marlo and her team.  We mingled a little bit, before Marlo came out and introduced herself and gave us her background. She talked about how hard it was for her growing up, choosing between a foster family or an abusive environment. She told us how she ended up on RHOA, and how the show made her look crazy, but that's what happens on "edited" TV shows.  After her history, she went into her style tips.  I loved all of her tips! Some I knew, and some were NEW! I really love the color wheel idea. Who doesn't love to play with colors? Check out my photos from the event below, and some of her style tips!

When you're unsure of what colors go together, having a paint wheel is super helpful! Bedazzle this also!

Statement piece. Invest in one bold statement piece that can take any outfit to the next level.
Everyone should have a denim jacket and a trench! You can even wear the trench as a dress, or if you're leaving the gym, put this on over your gym clothes, swap into a pair of heels and now you look ready to go!

Marlo is a true believer in third pieces. Whether it's a shawl, jacket, or scarf, always add that last piece to change up your look!

Marlo loved my statement necklace!
