DIY: MAKEUP ORGANIZATIONMonday, May 18, 2015
Contrary to popular belief, I do not like clutter or a mess, but my lifestyle of working 8-5:30, running to events, staying up blogging, passing out and waking up to do it all over again, has taken a toll on my apartment. Many a things get tossed on the couch or the table when I come in...creating clutter. Finally this weekend, I couldn't take it! Starting with my makeup, I went to war. I'm a bit of a hoarder and between products that I've purchased, or were gifted to me, the amount of beauty products I own was getting out of control and I wasn't using them fast enough. I threw away a bunch of products that I had way beyond their recommended shelf life and put aside products that I would never use. For the remaining items, I wanted cute ways to store them. I posted a status on Facebook asking my beauty loving friends how do they store makeup brushes and most of them said mason jars and cups and told me to head over to Pinterest! I love Pinterest, but for some reason I always forget to go there first for ideas! And ideas it had! People had so many cool DIYs for makeup storage! I went crazy, liking and re-pinning, and then I was ready to go out and shop.
I started off at Marshall's and was overwhelmed by the amount of makeup organizers they had! I fell in love with all of the acrylic ones and started grabbing everything. I had to remind myself that I didn't have as much makeup left so I probably didn't need 10 containers......>blank stare<. So after sorting them out and picking the ones out that I wanted with the help of my friend Leena, I headed home with the below containers. From Marshall's I picked out items by the brand Bino and the brand Hotel Collection. The Hotel Collection tray set was really for bathroom toiletries, but I decided to use some of them for makeup storage and perfumes. Our last stop was to Michael's where I purchased the apothecary jar to keep dust off of my more expensive makeup brushes! Let me know what you think of my new storage!
The left container is actually a Q-tip organizer that I bought a long time ago for Q-tips, but when I put the Q-tips in there they kept getting stuck, so I took them out and left them in their ugly box. Now I'll eventually use that container for more makeup! The other two are part of the Hotel Collection bathroom set. I love their shape and they shine! I used the bigger one for my makeup remover containers and the tall, skinny one for all of my eyeliners!
This is a BINO container! The back row I used to store my cheaper brushes, or my brushes that have bristles on both ends (I didn't want to put those kind in the sand of the Apothecary Jar). The front I used for my mascaras (no idea why I STILL have so many..honesly there's only so may mascaras a person can go through...I have a hard time letting go!) and my favorite eyeliner sticks from Laura Mercier.
From the side. I bought the blue filler stones from Michael's. Lately I've been obsessed with sky blue!
From the back.
This was one of my favorite DIYs I found on Pinterest. Taking an apothecary jar and filling it with sand to store makeup brushes. This container, with it's lid, stops dust from sitting on the brushes. I may buy another one for the other brushes in the future, but for now I'll keep them in their container and my pricey brushes in this jar.
The only annoying thing about this jar is the underside of the lid sits inside the jar, so the brushes have to be pushed closed together so that their brushes don't get stuck in the lid and bent out of shape. Maybe I'll look for a wider jar, or just buy that second jar and split them up!
As soon as I saw this case I had to have it! It pretty much fit the rest of my makeup, and I love the clear acrylic so that I can see everything!
Beauty Blogger, Nicole Kestenbaum gifted me with the Lorac eyeshadow palette last year for my birthday and the one underneath is c/o of IT Cosmetics.
Face products! Mineral veils, highlights, blushes!
I also bought this cylinder container from Marshall's. It spins back close, but I'm just going to leave it open.
I used the other Hotel Collection products for their actual uses!
The Hotel Collection tray made for a great perfume tray.
Last but not least, I bought a new Nail polish rack. I had tons of nail polishes to fill this, but I threw them all away, because they were old! So I'm starting my collection anew!
