EVENT RECAP: Hats Off To Max MaraTuesday, July 22, 2014
Ooooh I love a great hat. And nothing is better than a well-constructed, over-the-top, larger-than-life floppy hat from a super talented milliner, like the one I'm wearing in the above picture! Such a fabulous Kentucky Derby & church hat! So where was I that I found this amazing hat? I was at Max Mara in Houston Galleria Mall for their Hats Off to Max Mara event featuring the work of Houston Milliner, Gabriela Dror. The event was complete with fascinators, hats, cookies, lite bites and champagne. Proceeds from the event went to the Santa Maria Hostel dedicated to ending the cycle of addiction and abuse in women. I was able to snag a few minutes with Max Mara Store Manager, Jennifer Simmons and asked her a few questions on the event and the Max Mara Fall/Winter 2014 collection.

Tell me about this event and how the concept came up?
We collaborated with Gabriela Dror, who's a local hat designer here in Houston and partnered with the Santa Maria Hostel which is a women's shelter geared towards bringing women back into the work force after they've been incarcerated. They provide housing and funding to get them back on their feet. It's a wonderful cause.
How important is it to you to be able to give back through events like this? Very important
Will there be more events like this in the future?
At least once a month! This month we're with Gabriela, next month we're having an event with Charlene Phillips at her boutique at West Ave. We are currently launching our Fall/Winter line at the moment so our Spring/Summer line is 50% off. Everything! Accessories to shoes!
Sounds like I definitely need to browse the sale racks before I head out! Can you tell us a little bit about the Fall/Winter Collection?
Fall/Winter has lots of fabrics, cashmere, hand-knits, & hand stitching. Max Mara is known for coats, so we have coats in all shapes and styles, from long maxi coats to short styles, all done in the finest cashmere from Italy. They're all hand made in our factory in Riccio, Italy.
I have to ask, since we do live in Houston where it seems to be hot 95% of the year, how are the coat sales here?
We do very well! I worked at a store one time that sold cashmere in July here in Houston. Houston has a really great market. If a woman wants it, she's going to buy it. Our coats are an investment. They're not just something, someone is going to come in and buy on a whim. I have a Max Mara coat that I bought 10 years ago and I still wear it, so it's an investment and they understand that.
Very nice! Quality vs quantity. Now it's time for the hardest question of the evening! What is your favorite item in the store right now, or your favorite Max Mara style(s) that you gravitate too? Personally, I gravitate to our Sports Max line. The dress I'm wearing right now is Sports Max and I combined another line with it, our S Line. But normally I gravitate towards Sport Max. Sport max is a little bit more edgy, a little bit more clean lines. This dress is called the snail dress and we do this every season.

|How amazing is this necklace? I had to ask where she got it, but it was one of a kind from an estate sale. Fail for me, but great on her!|
