ICONIC SUMMER MOMENTS - Music

Thursday, July 11, 2013

There's just something about Summer that everybody loves. I don't know if it's the sunshine, heat, pool, or fabulous sandals, but I think one would be hard-pressed to find someone that "hates" sSummertime.  In fact, one of the main reasons I moved to Houston was because it was warm all year round!  For the Summer, Pepsi has kicked off an Iconic Summer Moments campaign and has asked for a few bloggers to share what we love about music during the Summer! This is a no-brainer and I'm happy to share with all of you.

ATTENDING SUMMER CONCERTS
Last week I had the opportunity to attend Houston's Annual 4th of July Celebration: Freedom Over Texas with headliners Sheryl Crow & Martina McBride.   I attended the concert with my roommate Valerie, and fellow Houston Fashion Blogger, Imani Talib.  Val and I were packed for the event, bringing our lawn chairs and water and hoping to just sit back and have a good time for 6 hours, and that we did! We made friends with the people sitting around us, cheered after the National Anthem, felt emotional with the presentation of the Color Guard and sang & danced our butts off to Sheryl Crow & Martina McBride.

Martina McBride & Sheryl Crow share the stage for an iconic Sheryl Crow Song
Who is more suited to have a Red, White & Blue Guitar than Sheryl Crow?
At one point there were blow up beach balls being tossed around the crowd during Sheryl Crow's Soak up the Sun song. It was perfect timing. The song, the heat, and the beachballs made me think of Summer and being on the beach! Seeing these two in concert was amazing.  Martina McBride is the first country artist that I really started to like, she was crossover and to this day I love all of her jams. Of course Sheryl Crow has a plethora of songs that everyone loves from "Soak up the Sun" to "First Cut is the Deepest" to "All I wanna do".  I hope this is not the only concert I make it to this Summer! I tried to buy tickets to the Beyonce concert here in Houston, but they were all sold out. Other concerts in Houston that I would love to attend this Summer are:

Kirk Franklin Gospel Brunch
Fall Out Boy
Fun.
Bruno Mars
Backstreet Boys
American Idol

SUMMER MUSIC PLAYLIST
The world would not be the same without music, and I personally can't function without it! At work I have my headphones on, in the car I'm jammin, I sleep to the music station, and literally there seems to be a song for every moment of my life...EVER.  I love mixing older songs with new songs. I have about 10 different playlists on my ipod, but on my iphone I have about 34 songs that I'm really into right now that I want to be able to play at any given moment.  Here are some of them:

Fantasia - Without Me
Karmin - Acapella
AWOLNATION - Sail
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
Bruno Mars -
Will.I.Am - #ThatPower
Pink - Just Give Me a Reason
Tamar Braxton - Love & War
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us
Adele - Skyfall
Justin Timberlake - Mirrors
Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines
Selena Gomez- Come & Get it
Chris Brown - Fine China
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Fall Out Boy - Light 'Em Up
Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

  5. I can't do summer concerts. Water or not, it's way tooooooo hot. But love the pics though. I do love summer for the sheer fact that ice cream is more readily available everywhere, lol.
