THE EVENT: Macy's American Icons Food Truck TourThursday, June 06, 2013
Macy's American Icon's campaign is alive and kicking. One of the many events for this campaign is the Macy's Chef's A-Go-Go Food Truck Tour. The go-go food truck is making stops all around the country with members of the Macy's Culinary Council appearing with it. For the Houston stop Executive Pastry Chef Johnny Iuzzini was in town serving up tasty ice cream treats. Guests had a choice of a Bitter Orange Ice Cream Sundae or a Sour Cream Sorbet Sundae. I opted for the bitter orange. It was super delicious. I probably would have gone up to try the second one too but I didn't want to look like a greedy fat-kid...LOL, but now I'm sad that I didn't have a chance to try the other one. However, I know that it was just as good because the people around me were raving over both desserts. In addition to the ice cream dishes made by Chef Iuzzini, the Macy's Culinary Council staff were serving up Mark Forgione's Sausage and Peppers Pork and Scallion Hot Dogs, which were yummy!! I think I've become a new #Foodie!
For the first 2 hours of the event, Chef Johnny and the Macy's Culinary Council staff served up the delicacies to the guests. The first 100 guests received coupons to spend in Macy's. In addition with a $35.00 purchase in Home, Fine China or Bed patrons received a Macy's Goodie Bag. The goodie bag came with another coupon, Macy's Culinary Council ice cream scoop, and a free copy of Chef Johnny's Dessert Fourplay book.

Not only is Macy's celebrating our favorite American chefs and designers, but they are working to give back to veterans by partnering with the Got Your 6 initiative:
One of the nation’s newest veteran support initiatives, Got Your 6 launched in 2012 with the aim to change the conversation around America’s millions of military veterans. In the military, "got your six" is a term that means "I've got your back." Uniting the resources of the entertainment industry with a coalition of more than 30 veteran-focused nonprofit partners, the collaboration is dedicated to improving veteran reintegration, celebrating veterans as leaders and civic assets, and putting their skills to work at home. Got Your 6 focuses on six pillars of reintegration—jobs, education, health, housing, family and leadership.
To support Got Your 6 and their non-profit partners, Macy’s is introducing a special savings pass with the goal of raising $3 million to benefit the effort. Beginning May 12,customers can give $3 at any register and get a 20/15 percent† savings pass for a day they choose or wear their support by purchasing a Got Your 6 pin for $6* and also receive the discount. One hundred percent of the purchase price will be donated to Got Your 6 and its non-profit partners to empower returning veterans and military families, up to $3 million. († Exclusions and restrictions apply. *While supplies last. Beginning May 14, visit macys.com/gotyour6 for more information.)
