RED CARPET REVIEW: The Oscars

Friday, March 01, 2013

Hi everyone! Sorry my red carpet review post is a little late! I've started a new job and haven't had much time to blog! Here  you go! My review of The 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet.

BLUE HUES
Helen Hunt's dress may be closer to purple, but it's hue so closely matches these lovely blues dresses that I added her to this category.  Blue was definitely a winning color for the Stars at the Oscars on Sunday.

Reese Witherspoon (Louis Vuitton) - Jennifer Hudson (Roberto Cavalli) - Little Q (Giorgio Armani) - Helen Hunt (H&M) & Robin Roberts

MORE THAN JUST RED
These stars didn't just settle for the color red to stand out on its own.  They picked gowns with a top half of gilded elegance.
Kerry Washington (Miu Miu) - Marci Gay Harden - Olivia Munn - Jackie Weaver
ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD
There's shine and then there's gilded. These top two dresses worn by Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman looked like they were straight made out of metal, while Kristin and Kelly stuck with the traditional sequin sparkle. Norah Jones wore a mixture of the two styles in her Tadashi Shoji dress.

Nicole Kidman - Halle Berry (Versace) - Norah Jones (Tadashi Shoji)
Kristin Chenoweth & Kelly Osbourne

NUDES
Nudes and blacks are popular on any Red Carpet. I'm loving the dress selections chosen by Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer.  Kristen Stewart didn't work with the dress or the dress didn't work with her. Not sure which, but it was not a good match in my opinion, and it had nothing to do with her first viewing in crutches.  Jennifer's dress is nice and simple, but it didn't WOW me.
Jessica Chastain (Giorgio Armani) and Octavia Spencer (Tadashi Shoji)
Kristin Stewart (Reem Acra) - Jennifer Lawrence (Dior Haute Couture ) - Anne Hathaway (Prada)

DARK NUDE
Naomie and Brandi opted for darker shades of nude.
Naomie Harris & Brandi Glanville

BRIGHTS
Thought not the popular option for the Oscars, these ladies wow in bright hues of yellow, pink and red.
Jennifer Anniston - Fan Bing Bing - Jane Fonda - Maria Menounos

WHITE DRESSES
Queen Latifah (Badgley Mischka) and Charlize Theron (Dior)
TWO-TONED
These ladies love blocking with 2 colors. Whether it was light on top dark on bottom or dark on top and light on bottom, these ladies couldn't decide on one color.
Shaun Robinson & Kelly Rowland (Donna Karan Atelier)
SHADES OF BLACK
There may be a misconception that when one wears a black dress it may be the same shade.  These leading ladies prove that black comes in all shades!
Adele (Jenny Packham) - Sandra Bullock - Salma Hayek - Giuliana Rancic
GRAY
Somewhere between the world of black and white, gray resides. These ladies opted to show-off in different gray hues.
Melissa McCarthy - Amanda Seyfried - Amy Adams (Oscar De La Renta)

GILDED COUPLES
George and Liev looked like they arrived with their own metal accessory, just not a gold oscar statue. Their plus ones, radiated in lovely shiny dresses.
George Clooney and Stacy Keibler (Naeem Khan) - Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts (Armani) - Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones
COUPLES STYLE  - BLACK

  1. I'm glad you picked Zoe for best dressed - I actually saw her mentioned on several 'worst-dressed' lists for the dress being 'too busy' and I was surprised. I agree that there's a lot going on in that dress, but I thought it all worked together. I love the flowing bottom section with the different shades. Great wrap-up!
