ELEGANTEES: Modest Fashion Against Sex Trafficking

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Katie Martinez, designer and founder of Elegantees, to feature her line on my blog.  Proceeds from the sell of these tops goes to supporting victims/survivors of sex trafficking in Nepal.  Katie's hope is to continue to grow her business to fight against sex trafficking around the globe. Elegantees works by providing sewing jobs for thousands of women rescued from sex trafficking under The Nepali Rescue Project. Your item comes with a special "Made in Nepal" label.

Katie firmly believes that sex appeal isn't needed to promote fashion and beauty. The models for her line are relate-able, everyday ladies with various body types and sizes. Katie's response when asked about starting Elegantees:

"It wasn't easy to shop for affordable trendy clothing that was modest. I was a pattern maker, so that inspired me to design fashion I longed to see in stores.  I then built my career in  clothing manufacturing and  proved my talent in business. However, I wasn't fulfilled  knowing the corporations I worked for kept on growing  without giving back.  In 2010, with money saved and  connections established, I took  a leap of faith to marry elegant  and tees. My aim is to use my  talents to give hope and  restore dignity to sex trafficked  victims."

ENSEMBLE
Pants: Forever 21
Top: c/o Elegantees
Flats: Marc Fisher
Bracelet: c/o Macy's Heart of Haiti
Ring: Versona Accessories
Necklace: Giveaway Win

The top that Katie sent to me is called Mariska, and she comes in Italian Pink (the color I have) and Charcoal Grey. I picked this one because I loved the lace inset on the back and the flutter sleeves. The finishing on the sleeves is done in black to match the lace in the back.
