THE EVENT: Hermes Festival of Craft Part II

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Welcome to part II of my Hermes Festival of Craft experience.  In total there were 8 Artisan stations. I covered the first 4 HERE, and here are the other 4.

DESSINATEUR - Engraver
I was really impressed with the work that the Engraver does.  She's been doing this for about 32 years.  Basically she takes the artwork that they want to turn into a scarf and identifies all the colors that would be needed with her naked eye.  Then she traces over the artwork a sketch per color. That sketch than becomes the template for that color on the silk printer.  She said it took her a whole year to do the Native American sketches.  So detailed.  She also showed me how she does the shading on the artwork.  The Native American painting had 46 colors, which equates to 46 stencil boards.

The end result...the painting as a scarf

PEINTRE SUR PORCELAINE - Porcelain Painter

DECORATEUR A L'OR - Gilder

HORLOGER - Watchmaker
