BEDFORD FALLS HEADWEAR: 1940s Grace

Friday, July 27, 2012

Back in April I was roaming around the Houston International Festival and came across a booth called Bedford Falls Headwear.  I instantly fell in love with all of their cool hand-crafted fascinators and hair accessories. You could tell they were made of quality. Unfortunately I was volunteering and didn't have my wallet and that was the only day they were going to be at the festival.  I asked them if they were located in Houston, but alas they were based out of New Orleans...:-/. However not all is lost as I was in New Orleans this weekend and made it my mission to find them and purchase at least ONE item. I ended up buying four items for my hair.

At first I was curious if they were named Bedford Falls after the town in the movie "It's A Wonderful Life", and after going to their site and seeing a category called ZuZu's petals, I'm even more convinced.  Of course after reading more on their site I find the following to confirm my suspicions:

"The name Bedford Falls comes from the 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life. Bedford Falls is a place where nostalgia runs rampant, a place where men were gentlemen and women were ladies. Bedford Falls Headwear aims to evoke the same kind of elegance and class of eras gone by."

I think my obsession with headwear especially fascinators spurs from my love vintage fashion decades 20s-40s.  These head wear pieces are like the styles worn in the 40s, and I LOVE them. Bedford Falls also has a blog!! Seems like everyone has a blog nowadays, but I'll definitely be following! Check out their blog here: http://bedfordfallsheadwear.blogspot.com/

Sisters Abigal and Gloria make each piece by hand, and I had the pleasure of meeting Abigail in person at her booth at the French Market on Decatur Street. If you ever visit New Orleans you definitely need to stop by the French Market, and pretty much every shop on Decatur Street! I will be blogging about the French Market soon!
