TALK-SHOP-POSH: What I did on Day 2 of TxSC

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Veronika (Tick Tock Vintage), Erin (Little e), Me, & Molly (Smart, Pretty, & Awkward)
The second day of the Texas Style Council was full of more fun events.  Due to being extremely tired from Friday night's activities, Lauren and I did not make it to the first event at 9am which was a Photography Workshop. I'm really sad about missing that one, because I've been trying to grow my photography skills, and C3 (my new camera) and I would have had a great time! Oh well, a fashionista needs sleep too! However we DID make it in time for the Speed Mentoring Breakfast, which was basically using the speed-dating formula but for blogger mentoring.
Different sections of the room had pro-bloggers assigned to a topic, and bloggers could roam around from mentor to mentor and bombard them with our crazy questions! My main goal was to talk to Micala Wright of Fashionably Marketing. Her topic was Scary Legal Stuff: Figuring out contracts, taxes, etc.  This was very important to me, because this month alone, I actually started making money with my blog, and I don't know all the right steps to disclose, and ask for contracts, etc.

Micala (FashionablyMarketing.me) & Houston Blogger Andrea Gomez (Fashioin Ladder). Micala answering our many questions on how to stay legal in the ever-changing blog world.
I also met with Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage and Molly of Smart, Pretty & Awkward. Their topic was Finding your content niche. For the most part I think I've stuck to the same topics...outfit posts, and houston fashion events, but I don't want to get too far in one direction and have my readers all confused so it was cool to talk with them.  Erin of Little e was also at that section, and she was the one who gave up those fab headbands I swapped for in my last post! So it was cool to meet her in person, also because I went to this event wearing the headband! ha! I also chatted with Diya, Austin Blogger of Diya in Her Stilettos (pictured below). When I first started following her, I found her blog via IFB, and instantly connected to her story because she was studying chemical engineering while doing fashion on the side! Sounds like someone else I know...hmm..ME!

After the mentor breakfast, 100 of the 250 bloggers in attendance boarded a charter bus to go on a Thrift-Shopping. As I've mentioned before, and I'm sure you've seen, lots of bloggers are about vintage clothes and thrift-shopping for said vintage items. I'm not too big on either thing, but it was cool to get a lesson in how to tackle a huge thrift store.  We took the bus to Savers in Austin, and I actually left with 3 great finds! 2 scarves and a fun sleeveless plaid button-up tunic!
Before boarding the bus we received a pair of Dr. Scholl's fashion flats because we were going to be doing a bunch of walking
I picked the black pair

How cute was Savers that they had these treats for us when we arrived!

Thrifting 101 lessons from pro-fashion bloggers Elissa (Dress with Courage), Jessie (Style & Pepper), Jentine (My Edit), & Pamela (Marketing Publique)

After out trip to Savers, our tour guides took us down to 2nd Street the boutique street of Austin and we were able to peruse the different shops down there, and all of them were offering discounts for members of the Texas Style Council.  I will tell you all about my experience at the Austin Boutiques in a separate blog post
Then after changing out of our semi-wet clothing. It just would not stop RAINING in Austin, we headed to the Poshmark Posh Party. All kinds of vendors were there from Modcloth to Blowfish.  Modcloth was having a contest to name the dress on the mannequin

I love the message behind Radiant Cosmetics. Their prices points are the same as MAC, and this is for a good cause! I'll have to see about ordering from them!

I purchased that silver necklace on the counter! It was $15.00! I loved it! I'm now a fan of this jewelry company!

Lauren and I had our makeup touched up by Rae Cosmetics. They are a local makeup company in Austin specializing in makeup that is heat and humidity resistant! That is perfect makeup for us southern gals!

Stylebook was there also. A great virtual wardrobe app of your clothes from your OWN closet!
The affiliate program LYST was there

Last but not least we took some really goofy photos at this mobil photobooth!
