THROWBACK THURSDAY - May 2010

May 2010. What can I say about this month last year? It was a blast!! I experimented with different wigs,  traveled to Allentown, PA for one of my good friends' Bridal/Bachelorette Parties, visited my closest college friends in Philadelphia, PA, and attended 2 College Graduation Parties. On a not so happy note for that month, I got my car stuck in flood water, resulting in catastrophic engine failure...sooo my Camry now has a refurbished engine...Sheesh, a lot happened last May!

Casual and DIY

I've been looking around EVERYWHERE for a white version of this black vest that I already own. I just wanted something cheap that I could throw on when needed. Nothing pricey. I bought the black one from A'Gaci for like $7.00.  I could not FIND a white one to save my life...and it's summer! You'd think at least the store I bought the black one in would have had a white one, but they had every color but white. I bought this cardigan from Forever 21, and even though it's light, I still didn't want anything on my arms in this heat, so it's just been sitting in my closet. This morning I decided to cut the sleeves off and create the dog-on white vest that I've been hunting for. Here are the results:

I've been dying to wear this pair of shoes ever since I bought them a few weeks ago! This outfit was definitely created around the shoes. Since the shoes are black and brown, I went with the same color scheme for my clothes. Of course, I couldn't show up to work with a spaghetti strap tank top on, so I had to add something to cover my shoulders. I knew that I didn't want to wear a blazer, sweater cardigan, or anything long-sleeve...so I made the decision to cut my white cardigan from Forever 21. I think it turned out perfectly! This little DIY number will be getting lots of wear from me!!

Vintage Scarf

Vintage Scarf Haiku for IFB Project #2

No my head isn't itchy, I was just trying to be more creative with my poses at work! Thanks to Justin (my super nice co-worker who so nicely takes these pictures for me at the office), I didn't have to worry if I would have time to take pictures at my apartment because I had these ones from the office. Turns out I did have sometime before Bum-ba (more on that word later), and snapped some photos at home too.

Soooo the scarf is so adorable with its black and white circles. I instantly thought of poodle dresses and polka dot day dresses from the 50s and 60s.  I wanted to stick with the colorscheme of the scarf but keep it the focus of my outfit. I actually started off with a black tank, but thought "TOO MUCH BLACK", so last minute I switched to this cream tank, which I must say was the better choice! I was running late today, so I didn't do my usual stalk of Wendy's "25 Ways to Wear a Scarf" video to pick one for this scarf, so I did my go-to knotted style for it. The last added touch was the addition of the red pumps.

WHAT I WORE: Picnic Time!

Sometime last week, I was reading Natalie's blog Natalie Off Duty, and she had pictures up from a blogger picnic that she attended in Central Park in Manhattan. It looked so cute, and I started thinking to myself; "When's the last time I've attended a picnic?" It's been years!! So I decided to organize one with my friends here in Houston. The only difference is, in Houston, it's almost too hot for picnics but we managed to survive somehow. :-)

I knew this was the dress I was going to wear to the picnic as soon as I came up with the idea to have a picnic. It's so perfect for this occasion! I have lines underneath it because I was wearing my bathing suit under it. I picked Houston's Discovery Green Park because they were hosting Target's World's Largest Sprinkler, so we thought we'd be running through it.................................Well the sprinkler was so whack. It was no more than a glorified lawn sprinkler, and even had the nerve to have less water pressure than a lawn sprinkler!!  Not only that, but there was a LINE to go through it...are you kidding? I just wanted it to be open with people allowed to run through it freely. I was not about to WAIT IN LINE, IN THE HEAT for this thing!



Luckily for us, Discovery Green was built with it's own water jets, that "kids" run through all the time, and they were still running, so Natalia and I went through the below sprinklers instead with all the little kids, which was way more fun than walking through the Target Sprinkler.
