FASHION HOUSTON 2011 - Final Night

Monday, October 17, 2011

I've had this dress for almost 3 years now and I have never worn it. I'm not sure why...maybe I just felt it wasn't flattering beyond the fitting room, but I decided to wear it for the last night of Fashion Houston. I call this my cake layer dress, and I'm sure you can tell why. Though it's short and looks almost like a bubble skirt on the bottom, it actually has an elastic hem that prevents any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions. I also went with a different look for my hair; pulling out my inner lion!

Dress: Charlotte Russe
Vest: H&M
Headband: New York & Company
Peeptoe Sequin Pumps: Steve Madden (DSW)

Final Night Review
Cesar Galindo opened the last night with an impressive line of amazing red dresses he designed to support World Aids Day. All of the dresses are up for auction to raise funds for the cause. The title of this collection was Rojo.  I loved every dress so much, that I'm just going to share the pictures right here:

Aren't these red dresses amazing!?!?!?! I pretty much want all of them, and they are all unique and up for grabs!
I was able to snag a photo with Cesar Galindo after his show!
Following his runway show, Cesar took the mic to explain to us the significance of this collection and fashion's commitment to being more than just about clothes, but being able to make a difference. Bibhu Mohapatra was up next, with a diverse portfolio of looks.  My favs of course were the gowns. I seem to be really obsessed with floor-length gowns, especially perfectly draped ones!

Robert Rodriguez's was the last designer Fashion Show of the evening. The last catwalk was a tribute to Becca Cason Thrash and her Haute Couture wardrobe. I loved Robert's transition from neutral hues to bold colors. The blue dress is my absolute favorite...though I'd be too afraid to wear it!!

Style Icon: Becca Cason Thrash
To close out Fashion Houston the creators choose a local style icon to feature. Last year I believe it was Lynn Wyatt, and this year it was Becca Cason Thrash. Becca is a native Houstonian, and Philanthropist. She is known all over the world by numerous designers, who often associate Houston with her.  She has a closet full of goodies to die for. Before her favorite pieces came down the runway we watched a video clip of her discussing her love of high-end fashion, and why she picked these pieces to share with us. My absolute favorite was the Alexander McQueen dress with the wings going down the back.

Fabulous, right?!! I would love to own clothes of this quality, but first I would need functions to wear them too! Wouldn't want them to just collect dust in my closet! haha!

To view all of the looks from closing night, watch this slideshow presentation to the tunes of Adele - "Rolling in the Deep" and LMFAO - "Sexy and I Know it":

Tomorrow I have one last post for you from Fashion Houston. It will be a compilation of all the final walks from all 16 of the Runway Shows I was privy to enjoy.
