Wearing A Dress With A Skirt

Monday, August 29, 2011

Sooo I love this cute tunic dress from New York & Company, and when I bought it I knew it was risque because it was JUST LONG ENOUGH. Alas, (after numerous washings and me being to lazy to set it out to air dry) the dress is just too short for me to wear in public and feel comfortable. Now, I'm sure some of you would still be able to rock this dress at it's shorter length, but not me!! It has now moved  from my dresses to my tunic/top wardrobe classification. Yet I was not discouraged when I put this cute dress on today and realized that I could have a wardrobe malfunction with the slightest mistep. Why was I not discouraged? Because my favorite part of the dress is the embellished neckline, and I could still show that off by throwing on a skirt over the dress. Viola...wearing a skirt with a dress!

Ensemble:
Dress: New York & Company
Skirt: H&M
Flip Flops: J. Crew (Circa 9+ yrs ago!)
Headband: New York & Company

Style Tip: When things shrink, or don't fit the same anymore try and find alternate, creative ways to wear it. For example, roll a too short Maxi dress to make it a skirt, or wear a too short dress as a blouse/tunic. Sleeves shrunk on a button down? Roll it up and cuff it and make a 3/4 sleeve button down.  These tips are great especially if you really love the item and are not yet ready to get rid of it!

  2. Ahhh I saw this on your FB page and wondered how you'd done it!! What a great idea - it would be SUCH a shame to waste this top, plus it must hide any VPL through the white skirt! Double bonus!! ;)

  29. Nice Idea. A lot of my jeans that have shrunk are now permanently cuffed. It took me a while to realize that they shrunk and It took me a while to figure out that I could cuff them.
