Facebook Welcome Pages

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

The other day I Facebook-liked Michelle's Style Files Fanpage, and noticed that she had a really cool Welcome page. I've seen pages like this before on "company" pages, and figured they must be spending tons of money and hiring webpage designers to do this coding and that it's not even available for non-corporation pages on Facebook. Turns out I was wrong!! So I asked Michelle on how she created the page, and she sent me to the following link:

How To Create A Facebook Landing Page

The tutorial was so easy to follow that I started working on my Welcome page right away. What I really liked about using the STATIC HTML IFRAME APP is that I could create 2 welcome pages. Why does a fanpage need 2 pages you might be asking? Well, one is for non-fans (people who have yet to "like" your page) and one is for fans (people who HAVE liked your page).  The author of the tutorial referred to the non-fan page as a "squeeze" page. A way to get more people to actually "like" your page.  I apologize that the images are so blurry, not sure why they do that after saving them in paint!

Here is a screen snapshot of my NON-FAN Welcome Page

Now the tutorial link doesn't tell you how to change the bgcolor and stuff. I googled more html coding as if I were doing my own webpage. Here are some of the sites that I used.

To change background, text, link, clicked on links and visited link colors go here:
http://www.htmlgoodies.com/tutorials/colors/article.php/3479011/How-To-Change-Text-Color-Using-HTML-and-CSS.htm

If you need the code to a specific color that you don't know, here is a site that list color codes
http://www.quackit.com/html/html_color_codes.cfm

To create your own signature, which I also used for my blog go here:
www.mylivesignature.com - you don't have to register to use it.

Originally my links opened up embedded in my facebook fanpage with a scrollbar. I wanted the links to open up in their own windows. To do that add this coding found on this site.
http://www.quackit.com/html/codes/html_open_link_in_new_window.cfm

All of my images I hosted on photobucket as recommended in the tutorial

Adding Horizontal LinesI didn't use this yet on my welcome pages, but am using it on my Blog Blog Features page, and plan on using it on my Blog Awards page. If you want to add horizontal lines go here:

I hope you guys make some great welcome pages for your fanpages too! Let me know when you do, so I can check them out!

  8. Have you tried networked blogs or blogposts? They are free apps on facebook that automatically post your blog feeds to your fan page. You will need to make sure you have RSS set up for your blog first though!

  23. Looks like you have to click on the welcome page icon. If you are a fan you only see my wall. Not the video I have up. If you unlike my page you should automatically see it but if you like it you see my wall. Hmmm.

I love reading your comments, however please do not leave comments asking for following swaps. I would prefer that you follow my blog because you love the content and not because you want me to follow your blog back.
