BLOGGER INSPIRATIONS

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

As much as I love reading fashion magazines, I highly enjoy reading blog posts more. I find more inspiration from personal style blogs than I do magazines now adays. I follow over 100 blogs, and following this many you notice trends. I've noticed some of the same stores that are highly liked by bloggers. How many of these stores do you shop at? I have to say, of the stores on this collage I only ever shopped at H&M, Zara and Forever 21. I usually shop at Express, Target, and New York & Company. After following a few blogs, especially Jessica Quirk's What I Wore in which she featured a lot of outfits with ModCloth dresses, I started ordering from them too.

Colored Pants
Also in my daily reads I've noticed some trends in clothing items in general. Such as colored pants. Colored pants are all over the blogosphere, but I seem to be having a hard time finding them, or at least a pair that fits me!! I really want to own a pair, because I'm obsessed with color blocking. Do you like the color pants trend? Would you or have you worn them?
Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are everywhere too. They are actually trumping Maxi dresses. I love Maxi dresses as my go to item. I still haven't gotten into the Maxi skirt trend because I can't seem to find the right pair. One that doesn't make me look like a grandma or frumpy. I think I need a more tapered maxi skirt, like the white one in the collage below from Express. I think the see-through chiffon ones from American Apparel are really cool too! Which do you prefer? Maxi Dresses or Maxi Skirts?Harem Pants
And who would have guessed that M.C. Hammer would have been a style icon in his own right with the return of Harem pants? I don't know how I feel about these yet. I think I would have to do a less baggy, saggy butt pair to really pull them off. A girl working at F21 yesterday had on a cute pair of gray sweatpants ones. Do you guys like the Harem Pant? Would you wear a fully printed one?

Crochet, Lace, Leather, & Skorts
Shorts for this spring have really evolved! I think this is my favorite trend that I've been seeing around the blogosphere. I went to Express yesterday to buy a pair of their faux leather shorts, but they were all out of them :-(. Looks like I'll have to order them online. And at first I didn't like the whole ruffled skort thing...if you want to wear shorts that look like a skirt...just wear a skirt! But after I tried on a pair at Express yesterday I fell in love with them! They are so cute, and because they are "shorts" you can get away with a shorter length! What do you think of these shorts? Which is your favorite? Lace, Crochet, Leather, or Skort? Which ones would you not wear?
I look forward to your answers to my questions! Also next Monday I will be launching my 2nd giveaway and it's a vintage item, so make sure you stay tuned!
Luv,

  1. I've worn the colored pants years ago, I feel like I am too old to wear them now. They made me look really young. I am finally starting to like the Maxi skirts but it gets so hot out here in Houston that I don't see myself buying on anytime soon. Harem pants are too cute, I'm definitely feelings them. Me being only 5'3, I love wearing shorts. The shorter the better. Although I am short, I have long legs so I look fabulous in shorts. It's hard for me to shop online so I prefer to go in the store since manufacturers seem to have different sizing. Loved this post!

  2. Great post! I think those stores are most popular because they tend to keep up with current trends, and they're international so there's a consistency throughout the world. I only shop at H&M and Forever 21 from that list- I find the others to be out of my price range. Which brings me to my next point: I adore crochet/lace clothing, but I find that they're usually higher priced. Still on the hunt for a deal!

  3. @JudyJudy I so agree! Dressing in Houston makes things so much harder, because it's so darn hot. In my other post the Knit top one...I walked outside and instantly wanted to take it off! Haha less is more in this summer heat. I think I have to try a pair of harem pants and really see how they look. I also like shopping in stores because I hate returning things, and I have an interesting figure to fit, so I'd rather try on!

  4. @SabrinaRight on target Sabrina. I really love the clothes in Zara, but I definitely only buy like 1 thing from there every two months, they are pricey, and I just now discovered free people, but there stuff is a little steep too. I found a lot of crochet/knit stuff at buffalo exchange, so maybe try some thrift stores?? I agree, I haven't found a reasonable pair of lace shorts either and I really want one!! I think you're right about these stores, being international they make the shopping world smaller.

  8. I am a big fan of a lot of those shops. Mostly I use them because they are accessible to a large audience. Although, I do not use Forever 21. While I have seen people get cute items from there, there clothing feels extremely disposable (more so than the others). Something that doesn't jive with my goals of sustainability.

  12. @Alexis of NorthOnHarperAlexis, I agree on Forever 21. You really have to hunt to find quality, but for buying stuff for trends it's great because you don't pay a lot for it, and can just rock it for a little bit.

  21. I'm not "allowed" to shop anymore, but I love H&M, Modcloth, and Free People. I'm also interested in finding a pretty maxi skirt for the summer. The rest of the trends are great, too, but not really my style :)

  23. seriously, i'm sure no one at the post office noticed! but it felt good getting dressed just for it :)
i shop regularly at all of those stores, except asos, modcloth and beso. i get about 60% of my stuff at shopbop and free people, mostly when sales hit. and forever 21 is easy for all the super trendy stuff i won't wear next season.

  24. @PierinaHey girl no problem. I'm glad you found me on chictopia, because I really enjoy your outfits! Yes I need the leather shorts so badly...ugh!!

  25. @LoveMakesTheGirlHey girl! Why are you not allowed to shop anymore? You don't need to because you sew perfect pieces!! Yea the Maxi skirt thing is still an issue for me too! I love that you stay true to your style and won't try a trend just because it's the new thing! That's how everyone should address Fashion.

  26. @indie.electronic.alternative.I agree the prices at Forever 21 are perfect for just wanting to buy a piece to try out a trend and then never think about it again. I think I will really like freepeople. They just opened a store here in Houston, and I'm going to check it out

  27. Of all the stores in your collage, I've only ever shopped at Forever 21. I dont like buying clothes online because its so hard for me to find stuff that fits. I usually shop at NY&C, JC Penney, and Old Navy. Nordstroms is a new favorite though...I'd never been in one until the day we all went out shopping for Robin's dress!

Colored pants...nope, not for me. Same with harlem pants. I'd appreciate them on other people, but I'm not that bold with my bottom half. I really like maxi skirts/dresses, but I'm leery to wear them for fear of looking pregnant. If I could find a flattering one, I'm sure I'd wear it all the time! Shorts...I actually barely own any. The only of the above I'd realistically wear would be the skorts...man, I wore those in 8th grade...funny how they're coming back :)

  28. Hey Shasie! I am big on the shorts for Spring too! More dressier than jeans but not too over the top and they can be so versatile! i am also keen to try a maxi skirt but so far have not had the guts! haha. Definitely something we should give a go :) x

  29. @}i{Forever 21 is great because it's cheap way to try trends and new styles without wasting a lot of money. I'm also not a big online shopper. I'll have to shop more in JcPenny's. I love Old Navy too. Yea I've never really shopped in Nordstrom either, but they do have fab dresses!!

Girl I think you would look fine in a maxi skirt/dresses. We'll have to go shopping for one for you!! Maxi dresses are flattering on all figures. Haha I remember skorts when I was younger. I had some denim ones

  30. @~lee-lee**Yay! Love the shorts!Yes! I'm willing to try a maxi skirt if you are! It's definitely more bohemian, which I tend not to have in my style persona, but I'm willing to try one if you are!
